Chief Education Officer and founder of Improv 4 Caregivers
Catherine Braxton, Chief Education Officer and founder of Improv 4 Caregivers, is an international speaker who uses her magical talents in helping individuals, families and organizations better communicate with persons with Dementia and Alzheimer’s. She has worked in the aging industry for over 25 years. She shares how the rules of improv can help communication with any relationship.
Catherine’s focus is working with caregivers and informal caregivers, educating them in her seminars/workshops and equipping them with new communication tools to practice with their loved ones that have Dementia or Alzheimer’s.
Catherine uses 4 improv rules to build upon which are:
- Relinquish Your Agenda
- Make Your Partner Look Good
- Yes, And…
- The Gifts
Each of these create a life of their own with fun, interactive content, mixed with improv games that “make the point hit home”.In my intensive classes I couple each improv rule with a pillar of empathy. Once tied together, they create a whole new way of thinking about and then truly interacting to make connection with a loved one.
- Take Perspective
- Withhold Judgement / Step out of Judgement
- Recognize the Emotion being shared by the other person
- Communicate that you understand the Emotion Being Shared
